Vacancies may be available for teachers, as well as opportunities for technicians, maintenance staff, administration staff, catering staff and outdoor activities instructors to name but a few.Those who work within the organisation are able to combine the experience and pleasure of educating and being around young people with some of the challenges of a business environment.

Bolton School employs approximately 175 teaching staff and 280 support staff and has over 2, 400 pupils. The School provides education for boys and girls from age 3 to 18. Pupils can start in the co-educational Infant school, Beech House, and then subsequently move into the single-sex Junior and Senior Schools. In addition, the School operates a day nursery with an 84 place capacity and has provision for pupils to attend a before and after School club.

A large Foundation Services Department supports the School operations and within this there is a trading arm, Bolton School Services Limited (BSSL). This includes BSS Weddings and Events, BSS Leisure Services, Kidzone and Patterdale Hall, a superb outdoor pursuits centre situated at the southern end of Lake Ullswater.

Bolton School isa partner school and hub in the Department for Education's (DfE) drive to recruit more teachers in shortage subject areas. The National Maths and Physics SCITT(School-Centred Initial Teacher Training) is atthe forefront of a DfE initiative to spearhead subject specific teacher training on a national basis, aiming to buck the trend of declining applications for Teacher Training.

The programme is a result of a pioneering partnership between the state and private sectors to build numbers of trainee teachers. There are, at present, ten Hubs delivering training in their local area. These are Bolton, Chiltern, Dulwich, East Midlands, Guildford, Humberside & Lincolnshire, North London, Oundle, South Manchester and Warwick.

This model of recruitment and training offers unprecedented opportunities for trainee teachers to gain subject specific training from outstanding practitioners. Initial interest in the unique training programmes offered by the SCITT is encouraging, as high quality trainees are reacting positively to the bespoke offer.

There is no doubt this is an important aspect of tackling the shortage of high quality teachers in these vital subjects and we are very happy to play our part in dealing with this urgent issue of teacher supply for all pupils across the country. It is an excellent example of constructive partnership for the good of all.”
