NOTE : बीते दिनों 1 अप्रैल 2023 को बिहार पुलिस मुख्यालय में एडीजी जितेंद्र सिंह गंगवार ने एक प्रेस कॉन्फ्रेंस की।जिसमें उन्होंने बताया कि बिहार पुलिस के अलग-अलग विभाग में लगभग 75543 पद खाली हैं । जिसको भरा जाना है इसमें से 7183 पद विभाग के आंतरिक प्रमोशन से भरा जाएगा ,बाकी के 68360 पद नए आने वाले भर्ती के अंतर्गत भरे जाएंगे । इस प्रेस कॉन्फ्रेंस में उन्होंने यह साफ किया कि खाली पदों की संख्या में कांस्टेबल के 35774 पद ,ड्राइवर कांस्टेबल के 8927 पद ,तथा Sub Inspector यानी दरोगा के 23653 पद खाली हैं ।इसमें DSP के भी 6 पद खाली, हैं जो कि बिहार राज्य सेवा आयोग के अंतर्गत भरा जाता है । उन्होंने विभिन्न विभागों को खाली पदों के बारे में जानकारी भेज दी है आने वाले समय में इनकी भर्तियां आने की पूरी पूरी उम्मीद है |

Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission (BPSSC) Bill was passed in Bihar State Assembly on 31 March 2016. The Government created the commission in order to handle the recruitment of subordinate staff of only those departments where the recruits covered are required to abide by certain physical fitness norms and also have to wear prescribed uniforms. These recruitment were previously being handled by Staff Selection Commission which was heavily burdened. Large scale vacancies in various government departments prompted the government to bring in BPSSC bill.

Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission is tasked with recruitment of Group C staff of Bihar Government where the recruits covered are required to abide by certain physical fitness norms and also have to wear prescribed uniforms. The departments concerned for recruitment by the commission are police, jail, forest and excise. Government posts with grade pay of Rs 4, 200 are recruited through the commission. These posts include sub-inspector (SI), company commander (home guards), fire station officer, assistant jail superintendent, sub-inspector (excise), Constable and forest guard, among others.
BPSSC is a four-member body, including chairman, who should be DG or ADG rank officer from the police department (Retired or Serving officer). The commission also includes one Member Secretary and two Members. While manning BPSSC, mandatory representation has to be given to scheduled caste (SC) and scheduled tribe (ST) categories.

The Bihar Public Service Commission (Conditions of Service) Regulations, 1960 was framed by the State of Bihar in exercise of the powers conferred by Article 318 of the Constitution of India and in supersession of the Regulation published with the Appointment Department’s notification no. A-2654 dated 31st March 1953. Under Rule 3 of the Regulations, 1960 the Commission was constituted with a Chairman and 10 (ten) other members. The strength of members was reduced to 6 (six) after bifurcation of the State of Bihar and the State of Jharkhand vide notification no. 7/PSC-1013/95 (Part-3) Per 8262 dated 9th October 2002 of the Personnel & Administrative Reforms Department, Bihar.
Article 323 of the Constitution of India prescribes for the submission of annual report of the work done by the State Public Service Commission to the Governor of the State. The Bihar Public Service Commission accordingly submits annual report of the work done by the Commission to the Governor of Bihar.
